Toward the end of my fathers life my sister, father, husband and I went to Alexandra Virginia . Dad, Randolph Wortman, could give us addresses of places things happened in he's life but he couldn't remember what happened their . Dad came back every day for a nap at the hotel but the minute that was over where are we going next the temperatures were up around 100 so we didn't go to Washington .
I came up with the idea of taking a boat trip we found a air conditioned boat that served meals and went up and down the Potomac river .
They served a brunch and it took 3 hours dad loved looking out the windows on the boat seeing a lot of sites he use to guard as a young man .
When dad was young you couldn't even vote if you lived in Washington D.C. to be a police officer he had to have recommendation of people from he's home district house and senate plus he had to pass a test and be able to shoot a gun growing up on a farm helped out their dad was second in he's class in marksmanship.
Dad meet mom, Ethel Stephens, in Washington her parents and grandparents were dead and she was living with a aunt Anna and Uncle Eddie .
Dad loved seeing Aunt Katherine my mothers bast friend from her childhood and her sister Dolly .
They lived in a house their grandfather had made . Their parents had lived their years ago to.
I need to go back to Washington ride the subway stay in a hotel or something my uncle no longer lives their .
He has moved to a small town in Virginia .
The nations capitol is pretty much my home town because I was born in Alexandra Virginia . What a lovely town so old so rich in history . I wonder what brought my family to Alexandra in the first place . My grandfather who lived their was a carpenter and one of he's two pictures shows him as playing baseball. He died to young to have very many pictures he got the carneige hero medal for saving two girls from drowning they lived he died .

I still have some family around Washington D.C.
As my relatives have grown older they have left Washington D. C. because it is less expensive to live in small town a ways away from Washington . They also didn't like the crime in Washington D. C.
I have one uncle still a live he was a volunteer fire fighter talk about doing good and helping out your neighbors he has done all of that when he was young and healthy .
I haven't been to Washington D. C. in years I did see the Vietnam memorial last time I was their it was new then I have never visited Ford's theater where Lincoln got shot . I would love to visit the British Embassy my dad worked their as a young man fresh into Washington as a cook.
They have added a world war 2 musuem which I would love to see .Our country won't belong to us if we hadn't won the second world war . We have had brave men and women defending our country sense it became our country.
